Next bike ride 20th April 2025 at 8:00 am
Easter Sunday! Details TBA.
Past rides
March 2025
A longer ride of approximately 40 km this time. Longer than intended because we followed the Gawler Greenway but then got a little tangled with railway lines and highways in the Cavan region! We saw (and smelled) varied scenery from elegant mansions to industrial estates and a tent in the bush near Mawson Lakes. The weather was somewhat cooler than it has been so that was a relief – no rain though. Coffee at Francos Deli in Mawson Lakes.

February 2025
A shorter ride of about 11 km up Fourth Creek and back through Campbelltown Streets. Coffee stop at St George’s Bakehouse at Rostrevor. The Fourth Creek Trail is not particularly bike friendly with narrow tracks rough in places and some sharp corners. However, the natural environment and birds singing make it worthwhile.

December 2024
The November ride was postponed/cancelled because of riders involvement in the Art Market and Community Garden Open Day so we waited another couple of weeks for our traditional breakfast ride although this year we went to a cafe in Croydon rather than go to a park. Riders were joined by some non-riders and a good time was had by all. We dropped in at Brompton Community Garden on the way home and inspected their mosaic work as well as the garden and green house.

October 2024
We headed south to Kensington for coffee at the High Street Cafe. Lovely weather for a ride and good company too!

August 2024
The July ride was delayed the start of August (and the July and August rides were combined). Four riders rode to Gepps Cross via some of Linear Park and mostly backstreets and returned via a slightly different path through Lightsview for a total of about 21 km. Weather was overcast but not too cold so excellent for riding.

June 2024
We rode to Mawson Lakes via streets and a little of Dry Creek (not so dry at the moment) and then returned via more of Dry Creek and crossed to Linear Park for the final stretch. ’twas a cold start (about 6 degrees) but was fine and sunny so we warmed up as we went along! About 27.5 km in 2 hours of riding (plus coffee of course).

May 2024
A short ride (9.45 km) to Mr G’s Cafe (Daly Coffee Kick) at Daly Oval in cool but othewise fine conditions.

April 2024
The weather was excellent for riding and so a ride to Semaphore was enjoyed by all. The ride there was via backstreets for some of the way but otherwise mostly on Linear Park and Outer Harbour Greenway. Around 45 km and 3 hours of riding plus the obligatory coffee stop at Semaphore.

March 2024
We rode up Third Creek (aka Todd Rivulet). There are bits of a trail but the creek disappears underground entirely in places (e.g. under Firle Plaza) and is not accessible behind houses at other times so it can be difficult to track but we crossed it many times!
After coffee at Magill shopping centre, we rode home through back streets until we joined up with Fourth Creek (aka Anstey Rivulet). A total of 15.5 km in about 1.5 hours (excluding coffee stop).
So we survived a combination of back streets, paths (some quite narrow, some dirt or gravel) and the occasional narrow bridge and sharp corner.

February 2024
A short ride (about 11 km) with great company (seven of us!). Good coffee and conversation at “That Coffee Place” – yes that is what it is called.

December 2023
A delightful ride in delightful weather up the creek (Dry Creek that is) with a loop back to the community garden for a delightful breakfast in delightful company. Did I mention it was delightful?

November 2023
Young and Younger Cafe at Athelstone was the coffee destination followed by a visit to the EV Expo at Campbelltown Memorial Oval. Perfect spring weather.

October 2023
A shorter ride to North Adelaide as promised with a light shower or two as promised. An enjoyable ride of about 15 km nonetheless.

September 2023
Another longer ride to Marino Rocks via the Marino Rocks Greenway and return via beachfront to Glenelg then finally along Mike Turtur Bikeway to city and Torrens Linear Park to home similar to the July ride. Started logging in Unley so missed about 10 km on the map but overall was almost 60 km/4 hours.

July 2023
A lovely day for a longer ride – cool but sunny with no wind. Route was River Torrens Linear Park -> Westside Bikeway -> Sturt River Linear Park -> Marino Rocks Greenway -> Mike Turtur Bikeway -> River Torrens Linear Park with a coffee stop at Flinders Medical Centre (near Flinders Railway Station). Around 50 km and 4 hours (including stop) all up. Maybe an e-bike would be a good idea!!

April 2023
The weather was fine after some rain overnight Sunday morning. With the community garden greenhouse construction pending, we had a short ride to Cheeky Grin Coffee in Firle. One continued on, others returned!

March 2023
A trip to Thorndon Park via streets of Campbelltown with coffee at the Rezz and return via Linear Park. A short relaxing ride of about 12.5 km.

February 2023
We rode up Linear Park and detoured via the dam wall at Hope Valley Reservoir. We then crossed over to the Dry Creek trail up to Wynn Vale Dam and then down to to Square 44 Cafe for a quick brew before returning using some roads for a quick return. Weather was perfect!

January 2023
A ride along Linear Park and the Outer Harbour Greenway with most of us going to Semaphore and then using the train from Glanville to Bowden on return. An early start at 7:30 meant it did not get too hot. As this is along the route of the community bike ride with Jeremy Miller in October (see below), Bevan shared some of the information provided at various points along the way. Around 35 km of riding overall with a coffee stop at Si Vera at St Clair.
October 2022
The ride, led by Jeremy Millar, followed the Outer Harbour Greenway from Bowden to St Clair. Along the ride we looked at various sustainability initiatives including the Bowden development, the new Nightingale building, the vision for the Gas Works precinct, the plans for the redevelopment of Chief Street and the urban greening along the route including the excellent community verge projects. More information is available via the QR codes in the attached document. A perfect day for what was a rather slow but very informative ride!

September 2022
We rode upstream on Linear Park to Athelstone. There is a new coffee shop on Gorge called “Young and Younger” which is now open on Sunday so we gave it a try. Nice coffee, nice food, nice Young people (yes, brother’s Young), and of course nice company! A neat 16 km return.
August 2022
We had a short wet ride to The Coffee Institute at Walkerville (about 10 km return). However, it was nice to see the river flowing strongly and the wattles in bloom. The coffee and food was excellent (and what we saw others eating looked amazing). It was mostly dry on the way home so we were glad we went depite the low number of riders.
June 2022
We rode the new Gawler electric train by riding into the city and catching it to Mawson Lakes and then riding back home from there. It involved exactly 23 km of riding (with a break on the train and of course coffee).

May 2022
We went to gaol on a day in May! There was a History Day event at the Adelaide Gaol on Sunday which included a market and some displays. Some further info at the links below.

March 2022
A longer ride of around 50 km! No trains or e-bikes involved either. First a visit to the Farmer’s Market at Wayville and a discovery that Gilles at The Grounds is another market there that happens every three weeks so must visit sometime – maybe next time it coincides with a Radler day (which would be 19th June). We then followed the Mike Turtur Bikeway to Glenelg, turned northwards, and after another coffee/early lunch stop at West Beach SLC, returned home via the Linear Park once we reached the mouth of the Torrens. It was warmish but pleasant nonetheless.

February 2022
Plant 4 at Bowden was the coffee destination for the faithful five riders via Linear Park and Robe Terrace/Fitzroy Terrace service roads with a few twists and turns. Return via North Adelaide and Linear Park – around 21 km in total. Weather on the cool side – still below 20 degrees at 11 am but great for riding. Map shows our route for those left wondering!

December 2021
We had a leisurely ride to Thorndon Park commencing at the garden at the earlier time of 7:30 am. Ian and Jenny met us there with breakfast and then we adjourned to the newly renovated Rezz cafe for coffee or whatever. Weather? – perfect!
October 2021
Our destination was the Hope Valley Reservoir (some of us went to the opening in December last year) with coffee afterwards at Dernancourt (Primo). Total distance was about 16 km – map does not include return trip.

September 2021
A small contingent rode to the Wayville Farmer’s Market at Wayville which has recently moved to around the Stirling Angas Hall. Rode about 26 km supplemented with lovely weather, coffee and market treats!

August 2021
We four rode to Semaphore on a lovely sunny day, covering 46.3 km in 3 hrs 17 mins not including the stop for coffee at Tullula Bright Cafe in Semaphore.

July 2021
On 18th July we rode to Coffee in Common in Hindmarsh and back – about 25 km in all. Unfortunately Di left the key to her bike lock at home and had to get rescued by her White Knight in a Mazda but maybe she had done enough riding. Just wait ’til she gets that e-bike. The weather was kind after the wild weather of the last couple of days with very little wind and even a little sunshine.

June 2021
On 20th June we rode to Waite Arboretum and Urrbrae House as suggested by Di awhile ago. After a wet week, the weather turned out just great for riding. Ginny and Stuart provided wonderful refreshments and support. We will do it again! Some pictures follow.
